Carolina Chemonstrations®: Catalytic Cobalt

Catalyze learning with this colorful demonstration. Students observe the oxidation of tartrate ions by hydrogen peroxide in the presence of a cobalt catalyst by monitoring the color changes. They learn the impact a catalyst has on reaction rate and observe that the catalyst is regenerated at the end of the reaction.
