K'NEX® Education™ Exploring Wind and Water Energy Set
Grades 5–9. Bring real-world, engineering problem-solving skills into your classroom. This set contains 288 K'NEX® parts. Hydro units require equipment such as pitchers, funnels, and bottles to hold, distribute, and measure water. The following models can be built and tested using this set:
- Grist Mill
- Hydro Car
- Hydroelectric Generator
- Sail Car
- Shuttle Ride
- Wind-Powered Water Lift
- Windmill
These models serve as an excellent way for students to examine the challenges of using renewable energy.
The teacher's guide provides a program of study that uses hands-on exploration in conjunction with an engaging inquiry-based approach to learning. Students are encouraged to build, investigate, and evaluate concepts, ideas, and designs. Both the teacher's guide and building instructions are aligned with the following Next Generation Science Standards:
- 4-PS3-4. Apply scientific ideas to design, test, and refine a device that converts energy from one form to another.
- 4-ESS3-1. Obtain and combine information to describe that energy and fuels are derived from natural resources and their uses affect the environment.
