Cardiac muscle is found only in the heart and is involuntarily controlled. The fibers are striated and contain 1 nucleus per fiber. The muscle fibers are linked by gap junctions called intercalated discs. These junctions allow for adjacent fibers to maintain an electrical connection, which is essential for cardiac muscle contractions (heart beats). Stained with hematoxylin.
