For a class of up to 40 students. Students construct a model of a kidney using a semipermeable membrane to filter a completely safe solution that simulates blood. The simulated blood solution contains simulated cells that cannot cross the semipermeable membrane and remain in the kidney model. The resulting filtrate resembles urine that students test for salt and other waste products. The simulated blood cells can also be seen and counted under a microscope - just like real blood! Students learn about the urinary system, urine formation, and kidney function.
