TeacherGeek® Hydraulic Claw Kit
Get a grip on STEM learning with the TeacherGeek® Hydraulic Claw activity. Students design and construct an arcade-style hydraulic claw controlled by fluid power. They can watch the upper cylinder move and the claw open and close below. After constructing an initial claw, students engineer unique designs by incorporating recycling bin materials (or 3-D printed end effectors) or extra TeacherGeek® components.
Students compete in thrilling engineering challenges, evaluating their designs, such as which claw snatches up gummy worms or marbles more effectively, or play a game of tic-tac-toe, measuring precision. They learn about simple machines, fluid power, and Pascal's law while applying the engineering and design process. Build once, tinker forever. Documents are available for grades 3-5 and 6-8.
