5 W’s Fiction and Nonfiction Binder

Designed to help students improve reading comprehension skills. By reading the short, humorous stories and answering the accompanying who, what, when, where, and why questions, students will learn to apply comprehension strategies so that they can understand and retain the information they read. Fiction stories are a humorous twist on familiar childhood fairy tales, whereas nonfiction stories are based on real news stories about animals. Each story includes a cloze reading activity. Nonfiction stories are also followed by five additional questions that require students to identify the main idea, expand vocabulary, determine whether a statement is a fact or an opinion, as well as use reference sources. Binder also includes answer key, list of reading levels and word counts for each story, list of met Common Core State Standards, and a whiteboard-ready resource CD.
