Carolina Chemonstrations®: Energy Transformations with Irradiated Salt Kit

Spark your students' interest in atomic theory and structure with this teacher-led, student-engaged demonstration kit. Students observe thermoluminescence from irradiated salts on a hot plate and learn about excited states of electrons. They calculate the energy released during these transitions and relate their observations to real-world applications of ionizing radiation. This demonstration requires approximately 10 min and materials are sufficient for 5 demonstrations.
