Carolina Chemonstrations®: Metal Activity Series

Students use a series of experiments and logic exercises to build a mini activity series in this teacher-led, student-engaged demonstration. After observing which metals replace ions of another metal compound in solution, students write balanced equations for each single-replacement reaction that occurs and determine a relative ranking of the metals. Great introduction or reinforcement of reactions types, redox reactions, and metal activity series. Materials are sufficient for 5 demonstrations.
